I don't usually mind classic works of literature being updated or adapted into new mediums every now and then, but this case is just a little ridiculous: a publisher has come out with a new version of Jane Austen's most famous and well-loved novel and given it a twist. The title of the new work says it all: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
The cover:
The plot summary:
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen's beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton — and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers — and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Complete with 20 illustrations in the style of C. E. Brock (the original illustrator of Pride and Prejudice), this insanely funny expanded edition will introduce Jane Austen's classic novel to new legions of fans.Oh dear. I wonder what the inevitable movie version will be like.

you have a nice blog.
Thanks.
No movie...yet, but this is one more manifestation of a very interesting movement amongst creatives of the Creative Commons generation. The idea of appropriating public domain works for new purposes. Essentially, found art. In comics, it happens too. Here, an example of one guy using and reusing dinosaur clip art he found on his word processor program:

I suspect it's the "mashup" generation at work. Not that it's particularly new. What seems to be new is the technology to do it with, and the audacity with which it is being done.
