‘The Birds of Prey’ attracts a flock of readers

Inspired by the recent online discussion on reading (including my response to you-know-who), some folks have decided to read Mga Ibong Mandaragit by Amado Hernandez and write about it. They will post summaries of the chapters and their own thoughts on their blog as they go along. I hope to join in, once I've bought a copy of the book.

A group-read like this is a great idea, I think, and something that can take the fear out of reading a book that's out of your comfort zone. If you haven't read the book, why not take this opportunity to do so now? At least you'll have company.

(Thanks to Ian Casocot for posting about the site.)

Update: went to National Bookstore at Shang Mall after my doctor's appointment this morning. Out of stock ang Ibong Mandaragit. At my request, they called the Katipunan branch. Ubos na rin. Took the MRT to the Trinoma branch. Sold out na rin! Aba! Mukhang maraming nagalit kay Connie V at binili lahat ng kopya.

There are still plenty of copies at Powerbooks Megamall. I bought one last night. ;) I'm challenging myself as well to read it again and understand it...kahit gaano katagal abutin!

Gosh, why didn't I think of Powerbooks? I was already at Shang but didn't think of going to the Powerbooks on the sixth floor. Effing eedjit. (Pardon my French.)

Congratulations on your decision and your determination, Leah! It's good to hear that not all readers are easily daunted by "difficult" and "incomprehensible" literary texts. May the experience prove immensely rewarding.
